Todd R. La Porte is professor emeritus of political science at the University of California, Berkeley. He teaches and publishes in the areas of organization theory, technology, and politics, and on the organizational and decisionmaking dynamics of large, complex, technologically intensive organizations. He is best known for his work in High Reliability Organization Studies, which reseach the organizational aspects of hazardous, safety critical systems such as nuclear power, air traffic control, and nuclear aircraft carriers. He was a member of numerous scholarly organizations and was particularly active in the National Academy of Science, serving on the Board on Radioactive Waste Management, and panels on the Committee on Human Factors, and the Transportation Research Board, and the Committees on Long Term Institutional Management of DOE Legacy Waste Sites: Phase Two, and Principles and Operational Strategies for Staged Repository Systems. At the University of California, Berkeley he taught courses on Public Administration and Organization; Administrative Behavior, Technology, Organization, and Politics.
